Blue-Green Algae
IDA Integrated Digital Blue-Green Algae Sensor
Blue-Green Algae (Cyanobacteria)
Phycocyanin fluorescence sensor for blue-green algae density — early warning of cyanobacteria blooms at drinking water intakes and recreational waters.
- Specific detection of cyanobacteria via phycocyanin fluorescence
- Bloom early warning days before visible outbreaks
- Reagent-free, continuous in-situ measurement
- Digital Modbus networking for buoys and monitoring stations
Overview
A blue-green algae sensor measures the density of cyanobacteria in water. Because cyanobacteria can produce toxins and cause taste-and-odor events, continuous density monitoring gives water utilities the earliest possible bloom warning.
The IDA Integrated Digital Cyanobacteria Sensor measures cyanobacteria concentration by detecting fluorescence emitted by phytoplankton at a fixed angle relative to the excitation light. To improve accuracy, a reference channel monitors the original excitation light signal. Both the fluorescence and reference signals are processed to deliver precise cyanobacteria concentration readings.
